Best Window Treatment Installation Trends for 2014:
2015 is almost upon us. And many of our clients have installed new window treatments to spruce up their homes for holiday entertaining! Before the year comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the latest trends in window coverings that we have implemented throughout the year in our clients gorgeous Malibu, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village homes.
Sheer Window Shades Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Westlake
We love the trend toward sheer window shades! New technologies in fabric manufacture have allowed shades to be more sheer than ever before – while still affording privacy and filtering out the suns harsh rays!
Sheer shades allow you to bring the outdoors in, with beautiful almost-not-there translucent textiles – that still offer plenty of shade, privacy and climate control. And, sheers are now available in new darker, dramatic and unique colors that were not available in sheer treatments of the past. Our Dark Cocoa Bean and Black sheer shades are particularly popular with interior designers this year!
Mix and Match Window Shades Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Westlake
Previously, it never would have been considered to vary different tones or textures of window shades in the same room! However, today’s interior designers aren’t limiting themselves to old conventions. We have created beautiful rooms full of shades designed in varying but complementary tones and textures. For example, three adjacent windows may feature sage sheer shades, while shades on a perpendicular wall feature mocha shades.
Pushing the envelope isn’t for every room – or every client – but when done correctly the “mix and match” can be striking!
Pattern Window Treatments Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Westlake
Often times, interior décor mimics the latest trends in couture fashion. And this year, clothing designers were all about pattern! So it’s no surprise that patterns – from subtle to whimsical to wild – have been showing up on roller shades and roman shades this year! Striped shades may be just what you need to add nautical flair to a room with an ocean view. Or pink polka dots may be the perfect fabric to turn your little girl’s bedroom into her dream room!
Drapery Makes a Comeback Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Westlake
One of the biggest trends for window coverings this year is drapery. In the 1990’s draperies lost popularity to the roller, roman and sheer shades that were being introduced to the interior design market. However, modern advances in textile manufacturing and innovative concepts in drapery design ensure that today’s draperies are nothing like the bulky cumbersome drapes that your grandmother had!
Not only are the new line of draperies free of cords, easy to operate, and even motorized – they also have excellent insulative properties. And they can be combined with sheer shades if desired for additional privacy, light filtering and insulation.
