All Skandia hardwood and vinyl faux wood shutters can be ordered with 2 ½”, 3 ½”, or 4 ½” louvers.
The size of the louvers you select will not only affect the look of your windows or doors – but also the amount of privacy, as well as degree of light filtering.

2 ½” LOUVER SHUTTERS
Larger louvers can overwhelm a small window – so we typically recommend a shutter with 2 ½” louvers for windows that are shorter than 36 inches in height. Smaller slat shutters add refined elegance, and the utmost in privacy, to powder rooms and other areas with smaller windows.
2 ½” shutter louvers are also ideal for windows with limited clearance (“depth”) to allow tilting of the louvers. Smaller louver sizes require less clearance when opened – so they do not hit the window pane.
3 ½” LOUVER SHUTTERS
Skandia’s 3 ½” louver size is the most popular shutter louver that we sell in both hardwood and faux wood shutters. It is ideal for medium and large windows, and and balances privacy with light filtering and maximum views.
Both the 3 ½” and 4 ½” louver are available in wider panels than 2 ½” louver shutters. And wider panels mean fewer panels per window – which translates into a less obstructed view, as well as a more sleek, clean and uncluttered look.
4 ½” LOUVER SHUTTERS
For optimal views on large windows, consider Skandia 4 ½” louvers. These wide louvers provide the best unobstructed view, and allow the most natural light, when the louvers are tilted open.
4 ½” louvers make a bold decor statement. When selecting premium hardwood shutters, nothing shows off the beautiful wood grain and finish like wide 4 ½” louvers. Durable 4 ½” slats are also a favorite for homes with large or rambunctious pets, or active children.
